EXPELLED Mini-Review

Saw the movie EXPELLED last night and I really enjoyed it.  I highly recommend everyone to see it and weigh in on this important topic.

The human cell is far more complex than Charles Darwin could ever have imagined.  Life shows sign of purpose, of design, of intentionality and planning.  This movie makes a case for both evolution and intelligent design being taught in education and asks the question, "What is the scientific community so scared of that they would fire college-educators just for mentioning Intelligent Design?"

I will add that there is a computer representation of mechanics of a human cell that led me to worship the wisdom, detail, and creativity of our Creator.  Indeed I am fearfully and wonderfully made!  So are you!

A Fight to th the Death

“Let us, then, reckon on it, that there is no way to have our work [of fighting against sin] done but by always doing of it; and he who dies fighting in this warfare dies assuredly a conqueror.” – John Owen, Overcoming Sin and Temptation, page 255.

This is the command of Colossians 3:5 – “Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

If you fight sin in the power of Jesus Christ, you will win many battles.  That is God's promise.  You will gain ground.  You will see many areas of your life come under the rule and reign of Christ, you will become more and more holy, seeing victory over sin, and enjoying closer communion with God.  The Holy Spirit working within us will empower us in this.

But the minute you stop fighting, your sinful impulses will fight with renewed power and energy.  Indwelling sin loves to see us slacken in our resolve to fight sin.
I pray that you may die a conqueror - one who has trusted Christ to fight the sin within you and persevering to the end in the battle against your own sin.  It is my prayer for my myself as well.

A Defense of the Faith

I just finished reading this challenging article written primarily to missionaries around the world, "The Tragic Failure of Britain’s Evangelical Awakening"

The point he makes is that our failure to defend the truth of Christianity against its attacks leaves people vulnerable to doubt.  The article points out one of the chief people lost to skepticism in the mid-1800's was George Eliot, one of the most prolific authors in the last two centuries.

Christians need always to be ready to give a defense for those who ask a reason for the hope that is within them.  Do you believe the Christian faith can be defended?  Have you found answers to your most serious questions?

A book that I am currently reading is Tim Keller's The Reason for God, a thought-provoking answer to some of the most challenging questions Christianity faces.

Over the summer I plan to teach a Young Adult Sunday school class at NLIC to teach how to answer some of the basic questions facing Christians today.

Evangelicals Less Likely to Divorce

Interesting article - that 26% of evangelicals divorce is still a high number, but it is is good to see that so many believers seek to honor Christ in their marriages.

"Jesus Christ has purified a people of His very own, eager to do what is good." - from Titus 2:11-14.
